Kayla
my 8 and a half year old Collie means the
world to me. So it was very upsetting when I started noticing
the difficulties she was having with simple every day
activities. She has been my shadow since the day I brought her
home at eight weeks old, but lately when I would go upstairs,
she would stand at the bottom and watch me. She was choosing to
lie on the floor over the couch as it was difficult for her to
climb up on the furniture. And going for rides were becoming
less frequent as she was not able to get into the car without my
assistance lifting her 70 pounds.
An examination
showed some arthritis was present in her hips. Dr. Ellis
discussed options, including joint supplements with glucosamine
and chondroitin and laser therapy. The laser therapy was new to
me but that seemed medically reasonable and priced affordably. I
opted to try it along with the longer term supplements.
After finishing
the first treatment, I brought her to the car and amazingly she
jumped up completely on her own! When I brought her home she and
our other dog, Hunter a two year old lab mix ran around in the
yard together like puppies. I had not seen her that active in
years and had to intervene in their play because I was afraid
she might pull a muscle or something.
As the treatments
continued, the positive effects were more and more obvious. She
and Hunter play practically all day long. She is back up on the
couch, and moves up and down stairs with ease again. Thanks to
the laser therapy, Dr. Ellis, everyone at Sunderland Animal
Hospital, I have my dog back and she has never
seemed happier. I would recommend the therapeutic laser in a
heartbeat to anyone who has a dog that is feeling stiff or sore
due to arthritis!

Recently, my dog Ruby
completed laser treatments for a sore back with great results.
Ruby is 14 years old. She had begun to slow down, was exhibiting
some restlessness and was somewhat grouchy at times. She would
sometimes snap at our other dogs or us if we jostled her. We
attributed all of these signs to her aging and just getting up
there in years. After an examination, Dr. Ellis discovered a
sore lower back but nothing else major. Laser treatments were
mentioned as a possible remedy for her pain.
The day after the first
treatment, while getting ready for a walk, Ruby starting running
around the yard and chasing our other dogs faster than I've seen
her run in a very long time. Over the course of the treatments I
saw continued improvement and by the end, Ruby was running on
walks and pulling me along on the leash.
Ruby’s whole demeanor has
changed. She is less restless and doesn’t react to the other
dogs jostling her. She seems more relaxed and often will choose
to lay on my lap or by my side instead of off by herself as she
did prior to the treatments. The laser treatment surpassed my
expectations. They were very fast, non-invasive, and we avoided
having to use drugs which can sometimes have side effects. Ruby
didn't seem to mind the treatment sessions at all either. I
might even guess that she may have enjoyed them. I will go this
route again as Ruby's symptoms necessitate in the future.
